The goal was to create a driving-optimized mobile experience. The experience needed to make navigation, calls, messages, and media easy to access while minimizing distraction.
I simplified user flows and designed larger, glanceable UI patterns for use while driving. I focused on reusable components, touch and voice interactions, and safety-driven decisions that help users get what they need with less distraction.
DESIGN PROCESS
I started by identifying the challenges of interacting with a phone while driving, focusing on safety, attention, and the different moments when drivers may need assistance.
Because voice is often the safest modality while driving, I explored ways to make Assistant easy to access and understand without requiring drivers to look at the screen. For moments when touch is necessary (We used a minimum 56px touch target to make interactions easier to tap quickly and safely while driving." I designed clear, predictable interfaces with concise information, and strong visual hierarchy.
