Google Assistant Auto Projected

Creating connected vehicle experiences for global automotive brands.
Designing for the automotive environment meant creating experiences that could adapt to a wide range of vehicles, screens, and interaction methods. We leveraged the Google Assistant Drive-mode framework to create consistent, scalable patterns across responsive layouts, right-hand-drive vehicles, and cars with rotary controllers.

Approach

Numerous screen sizes in the auto industries

I approached the project with scalability, adaptability, and safety as the foundation. Rather than designing for a single vehicle or screen, I focused on creating a flexible system that could work across the many screen sizes, layouts found in the automotive industry.

The goal was to build a system that could scale beyond a single vehicle or screen while maintaining a consistent Google Assistant experience. Components were designed with flexibility in mind, allowing layouts, spacing, and interactions to adapt without compromising usability or safety.

Process

I started by mapping the key automotive constraints—different screen sizes, layouts, and input methods like touch, voice, and rotary controls.

I then built reusable UI patterns and components based on the Google Assistant Drive-mode framework, adapting them across different vehicle configurations.
